Crafty Corner: DIY watch adjusting

08/10/11 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / Uncategorized

I am all about DIY (Do It Yourself) projects. I bought a metal watch that said on the label “adjustable.” I took that to mean that I would be able to tighten the band with a metal clasp.

Well, the label was right. The watch was adjustable, you just have to take out the pins! I began to freak out because I really wanted to wear the watch the next day.

My crafty sister went on YouTube found this video and we were able to make my watch band smaller in less than 30 minutes. We did have to improvise because we did not have this fancy watch kit. However, we used a paperclip, a small hammer, and our dinner table.

Simple teamwork and a watch that fits. Hopefully this video will save you a trip to the jeweler.

Until next time,

I am a big sister now!

07/22/11 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / Uncategorized

I had some very good news this week to share! I am now a Big Sister for the Big Brothers Big Sister organization. I have always wanted to participate in this program.

I met my little sister today. She is amazing and I can not wait to spend more time with her. However, this opportunity would not have been possible without all of the people who spoke with the organizers about my character and my abilities.

This is going to be a great experience. It is a lot of responsibility, but I am so ready for it!

My message today: Try to do something for others. Spending time with someone, does not mean you have to spend money. Sharing experiences can be free and worth your while!

Again, thank you for the Facebook Likes! Keep them coming and I’ll keep writing.

Until next time,

Curly hair products

Pantene Pro-V has a new line for all types of hair. I of course appreciate the Curly: Dry to Moisturized line.

A. Curly Dry to Moisturized Shampoo
B. Curly Dry to Moisturized Conditioner
C. Curl Defining Mousse
D. Curl Shaping Gel
E. Curl Flexible Hold Hairspray

I also swear by Noodle Head products. Especially the Noodle Head Curl Boosting Spray. The product does exactly that! Lifts your curls back to shape. It is a great product to use when hair is dry, after the sun, or if you just want to be lazy.

If you think that straight hair is easier than maintaining your natural curls, think again. There are plenty of products that will help style, maintain, and manage your sassy curls!

Until next time,

Relaxing online games

I would like to say that I always use the Internet to my benefit. That I am always productive, never bored, and always find something to do.

True, sometimes.

However, there is a beautiful collection of online games. Yes, beautiful!

The characters are something one would see in a nursery or a children’s book. The music is peaceful and challenges the mind!

Don’t just take my word for it, Go Play Orisinal!

Until next time,

Sleeping your way to beauty

06/15/11 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / Uncategorized
Sleep is the best meditation. ~Dalai Lama I wish I could agree with Dalai Lama. Last night, I was tucked in bed ready to sleep and ended up laying in bed for about two more hours, before finally resting my eyes.

I woke up with enough time to make myself presentable, but I was really annoyed that I was not able go to sleep when I wanted to. Sometimes, I make warm milk with vanilla extract, and sugar to help get relax. If you decide to try the same trick, you will have to remember to brush your teeth again.

Decorate your glass of milk

My Dad use to make sweet, warm milk for me when I was a kid. My glass of milk did not have colorful sprinkles, but maybe I will add them for my next sleepless night. I am not sure if there is any proof that warm milk relaxes the mind and body, but it did conjure up some nice late night talks.

As I squirmed out of bed, I immediately turned on the sink to warm-up the water, washed my face with my Mary Kay 3-in-1 cleanser, and started to feel a little better about starting my day.

I did not feel like putting on my war paint or rather my makeup, so instead I opted to just put on my intensive moisturizer. Aww, finally getting excited about the day. As for my hair, it too resulted into a lazy pony-tail/curly ball of curiosity.

I always turn to my leggings and a tunic top when I am trying to achieve a comfy and effortless outfit. Simple, but I felt fine being seen in public.

From a previous tweet, I wrote: Today will bring new things to be happy about. Today was such a day.

As for tomorrow, I have the same hope for more positivity to shine through and for new opportunities to enter my world.

Sweet dreams sweet peas!

Fashion right at your door

There is no reason to have a piece of wood to keep your door open. Your door stopper can now be decorative.

I found a high heel shoe door stopper years ago at a bookstore. It is more inviting and easy on the eyes. The item comes in black and red. I have the red one.

It is also a great gift for a friend. Buy one today for your fashion forward door at High Heel Door Stopper

My what long nails you have!

Along with my obsession with collecting tabs, I am also obsessed with healthy finger nails! It was not until I was around 20 years old that I discovered this beauty secret. Instead of being selfish I will share my process with you!
First: Buy Hair, Skin, and Nail Vitamins
Read the directions. The brand I take recommends taking three pills everyday with food and water.
$7 at Wal-Mart
Second: Strengthen your nails with clear nail polish. Sally Hansen also makes it in different colors.
Also can purchase at Wal-mart

Three: Moisture your nails with Culticle Cream Directions read: Apply a generous amount daily to nails and cuticles. It’s not greasy this product is great!

Hoofer’s Choice from Sally’s
Four: Have your manicure set handy. You never know when you’ll get a hang nail!
Perfect size for traveling

Hopefully this same ritual works for you! Just another way to treat yourself!

Until next time,

I’m thankful for…

04/15/11 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / Uncategorized

Today is not Thanksgiving day, however, everyday I try to remember what to be thankful for. Especially on not so fabulous days. Maintaining a positive attitude I feel is key in order to pursue any goal in life. Maybe, I am too optimistic and naive, but I rather be in this state of mind, than be know as a ‘debbie-downer.’

When I get in my bitter-salty moods, the only way I can snap out of it, is to write down what is important. Truly important. Not my favorite Bratz doll, although I do find them amazingly beautiful. Not my build-a-turtle with diamonds and pearls, even though she is truly fabulous. Not my cellphone or any other electronic device, making my social world fairly easy.

If I stripped all the accessories, decorations, or anything else I truly do not need in order to live, what am I ultimately thankful for?

I try not be cliche’ with terms or statements that lack meaning. Such as just writing ‘life.’ Be thankful for life, yes, but I find that too broad and does not really grasp the core of the exercise. I would prefer writing down, ‘being thankful for living a life where I never had to worry about my basic needs.’ I have received many wants in my life that I have convinced myself to be a need.

But, I truly cannot say that I lived a life and did not have to worry about the necessities, food, clothing, shelter, and love. If anything, I have had only options for each of those categories. So, even though I didn’t have a fabulous day mentally, I know today was probably worst for someone else in the world.

To be thankful for list

Even though I am the biggest cheerleader and motivator for my life, I too, have to sit back and remember what is really important. Cliche’ Alert: I have to remember that plans are wonderful, but I have to take one day at a time.

I’ll share with you my first three:

1. Living a life without worry of receiving my needs.
2. My curly hair.
3. Another day to pursue my dreams.

I hope you take the time to discover what you are thankful for.

Until next time,

Here’s to always being your B.E.S.T, even on your not so fabulous days!

Don’t waste your time on jealousy

04/12/11 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / Uncategorized
“Don’t waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you’re ahead. Sometimes you’re behind. The race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself” -Mary Schmich

That quote should be the theme for everyone’s life. We live in a world that is sometimes overly commercialized with outrageous and narcissistic individuals. I am guilty of such behavior. It’s easy to become consumed  when constantly broadcasting, “look at me” on social networks, blogs, twitter. I have them all, love using them too.

But, there is another quote I try to follow, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” Pet Peeve: I don’t understand why people leave shopping carts in the parking lot, when there is a special area to place them. By not putting the cart away, you’re making someone else’s job harder. Common courtesy costs nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, I think self promotion is wonderful. If you don’t believe in yourself first, how can others believe in you? I’m just saying, don’t be so caught up in your personal world, that others, get left behind. And just because I do put shopping carts away, doesn’t make me the person of the year.

It’s all about putting yourself in other people shoes. If part of my job was putting shopping carts away all day, I would really appreciate the people who put them back in their rightful place. As for jealousy, there will always be a lesser or greater person than yourself, and the only time you should look down on people, is if you are helping picking them up.

 Until next time,
