Sassy Sunday: Merry Christmas

12/27/21 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / Leave a comment / sassy sunday / sassy sunday

🍯🐝Hi Honey Bees! Merry Christmas!

I hope you had a beautiful holiday with your friends, family, and fur-babies.

On Christmas Eve, I went to Symphony Hall located in downtown Phoenix and watched the Nutcracker ballet. This was my first time watching this performance. I am so happy my friend, Afi, shared on her stories about this event, because I enjoyed all of the performances.

Especially, the snow scene. WOW!

I absolutely love operas, symphonies, plays, and now ballets. My appreciation for the arts stemmed a little from high school, when I volunteered backstage for Romeo Juliet and played a small role in another play where I spoke a few lines in Spanish.

Where’s my SAG card?! 😜

My freshman year of college, I took a classical music course. I thought, this class will be an easy A. Let’s say, classical music is more than just Beethoven. The professor would offer extra credit for going to orchestra and operas performances. Because of this class, I went to my first Opera, La bohème.

Since then I’ve continued to see other performances The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Blue Man Group. I would love to see the Van Gohn interactive installation before it leaves the Phoenix area.

What types of arts do you enjoy or want to see?

Believe It: How to Go from Underestimated to Unstoppable by Jaime Kern Lima
I’m still listening to her book on Audible. I’m at the part where is describing the types of women in her immediate circle. She uses the terms, ‘stray dogs,’ but in the most endearing way…hear me out!

She discusses how her group of misfits have been the most supportive group of women that she trusts and respects. Despite most of their upbringings, they all have managed to overcome their situations to become successful financially.

Just like a stray dog, being scrappy has lead to some impressive innovations along their journeys.

In a constant, ‘look at me’ world we live in, it’s important to remember what we are aiming to express through the content we create and also in our everyday interactions.

Sassy Sunday: Stand By Me

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

🍯🐝 Hi Honey bees! Happy Sassy Sunday!

After two nights of holiday celebrations, this morning I treated myself to a group cycling class at Power +Flow Studio. This was not my first time on a bike, but it was the my first time in a group fitness class.

The instructor, Kristina, started our session with a remix of the beautiful song by Ben E. King, “Stand By Me.”

As I was focusing on my breathing and how my body was receiving the energy in the room, I felt so grateful for the another day.

This month, I have started doing activities that I enjoy. I also started letting go of people and things that no longer serve me. All negative vibes, please exit left of the stage. 🙂

We spend so many moments alone. How we talk about ourselves in front of others and to our others is so important. I haven’t been the kindest to myself and taking action to change that.

As we set our intentions for the coming year, I hope you achieve all that you aspire and that you do everything in your willpower to make it happen.

White out parties…how do we feel about them? Comment below.

I’ve been gravitating towards jumpsuits for holiday events. I love an all white outfit. What I don’t care for is contemplating alterations or if I should wear higher heels. Shoutout to dry cleaning services for saving all my white apparel.

This all-white jumpsuit I purchased from Fashion Nova is no longer available on their site, however, I will post similar jumpsuits on my LiketoKnowIt page.

All white parties seem to pop-up out of nowhere, so adding these pieces to your wardrobe now, will save you a frantic shopping trip in the future.

Don’t forget the SPANX!  There are so many variations, but the high-waisted shaping capri’s were perfect. I purchased a size 4 in tan from Target. These were an absolute life-saver to keep me feeling my B.E.S.T!

Embrace Individuality

Iman’s showstopper gold jumpsuit by emerging designer, Harris Reed, at the Met Gala was absolutely stunning! She has always been the epitome of style, grace, and embracing individuality.

I was gifted her book, The Beauty of Color – The Ultimate Beauty Guide for Skin of Color. Her book of beauty provides insider tips and tricks to embracing the shade you’re in, because beauty has no skin tone.

Stay Classy

The difference between proving a point and standing up for yourself.

I have been more candid in my personal conversations with friends, family, and acquaintances. If my ear doesn’t like what it’s hearing, I’m choosing to speak up.

I was in a situation where what I said wasn’t well received and this individual attempted to silence my opinion in front of our small group. I paused, realized this may not be the appropriate place to express my differences and changed the subject.

I slept on the situation and felt the need to reach out to share my point of view in another way. My second attempt, was returned with a no reply.

How I choose to react is all I can control and with some self-reflection, there’s no need to continue imparting my view on an audience not willing to listen.

Have you been in a similar situation? How did being ignored or rejected make you feel?

Treat Yourself

There’s a reason why hair, skin, and nail vitamins are grouped together. Each are a signal of health.

Currently, my skin and nails have been in need of some extra care.

I was gifted some KISS nail products that helped me look more put together and save time. Any shade of purple, is my favorite and this set from KISS were a perfect last minute detail for an event I attended.

Products that DO what they SAY they WILL DO!

I had two painful pimples that left that area of the skin with dark spots. I purchased the mini bottle at my local Walgreens to see if this would help improve my skin’s appearance. I’m not even half-way through the bottle and both of my spots have faded tremendously.

Sassy Sunday

12/12/21 / Tiara Deahn Thornton / 2 Comments / sassy sunday / sassy sunday

🍯🐝 Hi Honey Bees! Happy Sassy Sunday!

The jolly holiday season is here and I have so much to share. This year has been full of self-reflection, some self-doubt, but mostly gratitude.

Twenty-Twenty (2020) put many things into perspective. How I manage stress, what I prioritize, and what I was putting off.

Twenty Twenty-one (2021) I let myself cry, not overthink the small stuff, and allowed myself to be more vulnerable and candid with my family members. I truly would have been lost with their love and support during such a trying year.

This year, I took note on how and what I was going to spend my time and effort on. I also brainstormed on how I am building my personal brand.

Titles are not my favorite. I struggle with the terms, influencer, content creator, blogger, creative, etc. These titles do not encompass all the details of marketing, researching, time, and money it takes to create a brand.

For most content creators, it is a team of one, until you can build/hire a team to manage all the mechanics of social media platforms. Along with juggling personal development, a clean home, and just time to be truly present in life.

With that, I choose to embrace the journey of sharing my ideas with the peace of knowing that if by me sharing my personal journey inspires someone else to become their B.E.S.T self, then it’s worth it!

The beauty of the internet and social media is that I too, have discovered others who resemble me and those that do not resemble me. They share their positivity, strength, success, and failures for me to learn and grow from.

I hope this holiday season, you share your gifts with the world and the ones you love. Below are photos of inspiration and how I define being your B.E.S.T!

Ugly Sweater Holiday Outfit

It’s ugly sweater season! How many themed holidays do you plan on hosting or attending? I love this sweater, because unicorns represent embracing individuality and a reminder to never be afraid to be different.

Sparkle and Shine – BLERR Magazine Launch Party at the monOrchid in Phoenix, Arizona with Founder and CEO Daryl Bland

Are you more of a glitz and glam holiday goer? I just love this skirt from Eva Mendez’ New York and Company collection. I also have the matching top, but have never wore together. I love that this outfit is so interchangeable.

Be sure to check out BLERR magazine’s @blerrmag beautiful content. I had the honor of attending this event earlier this year and purchased their first magazine issue. It’s truly a work of art, a masterpiece, visual poetry.

Embrace Individuality

I’m back on my reading game. Thus far reading a book a week via audible. Getting back to reading has been rewarding because learning from others is inspiring.

Gabrielle Union’s We’re Going to Need More Wine, she shares her personal struggles growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood, segregation of Hollywood, sexual assault, and step-motherhood.

She reads her book on audible, which I enjoyed because no one can tell your story better than you. Looking forward to reading her next one, You Got Anything Stronger?

A Little Book of Thank Yous Letters, Notes and Quotes by Addie Johnson

This book is currently on my Amazon wish list. 4 out of 5 stars. I’ve learned from my Mom the importance of handwritten thank you cards. Sometimes even the best writers need inspiration. I also find that handwritten cards are a thoughtful and precious keepsake.

Treat Yourself

A dear friend of mine, has adopted a vegan diet. I thought I would try some meatless protein options.

I have tried the Impossible burger from Burger King, Impossible breakfast sandwich from Starbucks, and now the Impossible Sausage all made from plants. 10 out of 10.

I will continue to keep this on my grocery must-have items and adopt products that do not harm animals. I am also #TeamOatmilk.
